Musings - A good old sort out...
Today I have been sorting out my 'library'. I am finally going to get rid of some books and tidy the rest.
Getting rid of books makes me a little sad but Katharine has been able to cheer me up. :) xx

Photo - Welcome
Today I am out and about in our town centre. Coffee, writing and lunch with my friend has been in the to do list. I have even purchase a book or two but that isn't exactly riveting news ha ha.
Anyway, I am now about to try out the bus journey home, ticket prices being much cheaper than parking and I spotted this sign.
I never considered Halifax a place to visit before but I guess somebody must do.
Does your home town have a welcome sign? Blog it. :) xx

Musings - On my back door...
Do you ever feel that you never really explore the place that you live? That your life is spent on your own doorstep?
Well, today we have gone for a drive to Ilkley. A local place that is renowned for it's beautiful landscapes and amazing views. It only took us 20 miles to get there.

How fantastic are the colours... Simply breathtaking in my opinion and with not one bit of photo messing.
I'm not sure if we can trek too much today with the baby but I am glad she at least got to see it.

Musings - Mama Kat's Workshop (27th October 2011)
This week I have been stuck. There are two prompts I would like to complete...
Last week I listed for you 22 things that I had never done so naturally I am drawn to the first prompt to tell you 22 things I have done. But then you see thinking about what scared me as a child had me laughing so much that I wanted to share that too.
So I am going to cheat and do both. However, so that you readers don't get bored I will only tell you 11 things, whet your appetite so to speak. So here goes...
Something that scared the Hell out of you when you were a child.
The picture here is a movie poster from Ghoulies 2. It was releases in 1988, when I would have been an impressionable seven or eight years old.
I remember exactly when I saw it.
We had pulled up to the petrol station. Petrol was being pumped and I just happened to turn to my left. And there it was... my biggest nightmare.
(Who ever designed that poster needs a good kick to the shin!)
I froze, horrified...
Then for weeks after I was terrified of going up stairs to the toilet alone. I would force one of my parents to wait at the foot of the stairs, every landing, bedroom and bathroom light would be switched on, I would actually look down the toilet before I sat down. Then, when I was done, I would charge back down stairs into the safety of the living room and a Ghoul free zone.
A child has never moved from one floor of a house to the other so fast. I swear I set records.
I still remember the fear now. That awful gut wrenching feeling of anticipation of doom.
Very dramatic, huh? But then I was only seven. :) xx
Now... 11 things that I have done.
2. Successfully breed fifty two Bearded and Rankin's Dragons from conception, egg laying, hatching, growing and then off to pastures new. :)
3. Met Dennis Waterman when he was filming in our village. (If you are not sure who he is, give him a google).
5. Walked on the Great Wall of China
6. Taken the Megabus to London. Only cost £5 return from Yorkshire to the capital but it took... HOURS! :)
7.Married a man in a Irish Tartan Kilt (him not me, ha ha).
8. Succumbed to peer pressure and indulged in an iPhone 4. How common of me!
9. Had one of those moments in a train station with a man where you wait until the last moment to kiss him, then as you pull away on the train and watch him through the glass realise that you will never see him again and it is going to be one of the big regrets of your life.
10. Won tickets to the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend music festival (2007).
And finally...

Okay, so this is my latest online purchase. It was only £2 so I think it is a complete bargain... But... I think the husband is going to tell me off. Clearly I ignored his 'there is no room for anything else' speech. Oh well. :) xx

Musings - Snotty
We have all woken with colds today.
Cough, hiccup, sneeze, cough... even the dog looks a little sorry for herself.
So we girls, the man has been shipped off to work, are all bundled up in warm clothes, getting as close to the radiator as possible.
We are dosed up with Calpol, vabour rub, hot tea and toast, day time tv and after lunch we will continue with Heroes Season 4.
Vegetation is the honour of the day and I doubt very much that we will even open the curtains.
:) xx

Musings - Mama Kat's Workshop (13th October 2011)
A list if ten things you should never ask your spouse.
So far I only have the one spouse, the current Mr. as I like to refer to him, so my list of ten never to ask questions comes from the single source of an eleven year relationship (five of those married). My list therefore, while I hope humorous to myself and those reading might not necessarily be to the other half because let's face it, he is gonna know it's all about him.
But he can suck it up!
You never know... He might learn something. :)
So without further ado...
1. Do you really need to be doing that right this second?
In relation to fiddling with vehicle parts that have arrived through the post when there is a ton of more important things that could be being undertaken... Like feeding the baby! Saying hello to the wife! Anything! Usually when I ask this I get lectured.
2. Can I ask the boyfriend and get back to you?
For some reason while I have been on maternity leave Kieran thinks I have a secret boyfriend who takes up my time as 'nothing seems to get done' around the house while he is at work. One day I might just call his bluff. I figure being in my thirties means I am fully entitled to take on a toy boy.
3. Kieran, you know how supermarket car parks are notorious for getting you car bumped?
Oops, this comes from only having my new car three weeks before some wally bashed it. Kieran was not best pleased but I bet he secretly loved that it was on my watch.
4. Do you like my hair cut?
Like most women who find a haircut they love I stick with it for a while but as these like minded women know each cut with always be a slight variation on the last. Kieran hates me asking about my hair as he always feels like this is one of those questions that is gonna trap him into always giving a wrong answer. I say just tell me it looks nice before I have to ask and I won't say a word! :)
5. Do your parents have to come?
:) I am going to get in to trouble for that one!
6. Can we just pop to...?
Like most husbands mine hates shopping. Or rather he hates my kind of shopping in my kind of shops as it means ambling for hours yet still coming home empty handed. So the second I say can we just pop to... he gets a resigned look on his face that let's me know I am in for the company of a sulking male.
7. Can I buy our six month old daughter a High School Musical t-shirt?
Yeah, he dreads the day that I get to warp our Katharine with popular culture. I do so love to tease him with it though. :)
8. Don't you think Hugh Jackman is hot?
Well he is! It's not my fault the man is a fine specimen ha ha. :)
9. So you didn't pay any attention to all my hinting, huh?
For an entire month before birthdays and Christmases I hint about what he can get me. I make it so easy for him but something happens between my mouth to his ears to his brain... he always gets me something different. Don't get me wrong, the presents he gets are always lovely... It's just... I have been waiting a year for a Hootie and the Blowfish album! But to ask seems to mean I am ungrateful. Tut. Sigh. :)
10. Can you adjust your tone!?
I don't know about yours but husbands I have come across seem to be unaware that they are talking to you like you are either completely stupid or the biggest nuisance ever encountered. The reigning Mr in our household hates to be called on it. Don't do it I say then I won't need to point it out. Tut.
If fairness to husbands around the world I do fear that they live in our world knowing that they are never going to win, will never be right and may well end up being the topic for ridicule on a public blogging forum.
My spouse isn't all bad I suppose. He might turn into every one of the seven dwarves over the course of twenty four hours but I am quite happy to be his Snow White. :)
Loves ya Fuzz! :) xx

Musings - Dreams...
Have you ever wondered what it would like to have the ability to invade another persons dreams? To interfere with what their subconscious is projecting in sleep... it is a subject that fascinates me and one that I have been thinking about over the last few days.
Would you take advantage? How would you be able to control yourself from putting forward your own ideas and desires into the mind of someone you have fantasied about? Or frighten someone who has wronged you in some way.
Think about it...
:) xx

Musings - Solemn Sassoon
Yesterday I spoke about buying cheap books. One of them arrived today, 'The War Poems' by Siegfried Sassoon, and as we are travelling down to Stafford to see the new baby I thought that I would bring it with me.
It is a very powerful book, even more so I think because I have known soldiers and my family has lost soldiers.
Usually when I buy poetry I look through the titles and read at random but today I decided to start from the beginning. I don't know if this book has Sassoon's poems in chronological order but still I am going to stick with the start to finish method. And with the first poem I have not been disappointed...
"War is our scourge, yet war has made us wise,
And, fighting for our freedom, we are free."
I don't know about you but something about those two lines swells something in my chest.
For those out there fighting for my freedom, I thank you.
:) xx

Musings - New addiction...
Sometimes I curse my iPhone.
Not because it isn't an amazing piece of technology because it is... too amazing in fact. You see, I have downloaded the Amazon app.
The book addict made it even easier to fuel her addiction... you see what I am getting at?
I am currently obsessed with the second hand book shop section of the app. You know the bit where it tells you that you can get your products for this and that in price in this and that condition?
I am even branching out from books! This week I have bought 4 books, 2 DVDs, some finger puppets and a jigsaw.
I will be bankrupt, okay it will take me a while as everything is about £2 but if I spend that every day it's gonna add up.
I don't think it helps that they make it so easy. Once I find what I am looking for it takes about a minute to finalise my purchase. I love it...too much in fact.
But when you can get Edtv for £1.27 then why the heck not.
:) xx
Ps. What is your new addiction?

Musings - Return journey...
Well, that week went really quick!
We have had such a lovely time that it is almost a shame to go home but to be honest we are wiped out. We have walked, wandered and weathered ourselves in the glorious sunshine.
So now we are on the costal motorway heading home yet still marvelling at the amazing mountain views and the mist covered shores. The picture above is the sunrise this morning tweaked a little with my app.
I am sorry to say goodbye to Anglesey and Wales but I am sure we will return. :) xx
Ps. England beat Scotland in the Rugby World Cup this morning, sending them home. While we love the win it is always sad to see a home nation defeated. Good play lads. Xx
